Why is it called Runaway Ridge?  After a few years of owning the property we started to talk about what to call it.  When we would tell people where we were going for the weekend, we often referred to just “heading to the mountain.”  Not very descriptive or unique to our particular venue.  Then life gave us our inspiration.  Jim and I both experienced catastrophic events in our careers in the same year.  Going to “the mountain” was literally the key to our mental health and provided us with a coping strategy that got us through these traumatic work weeks.  We ran away to our remote ridgeline every Friday evening so we could wake up Saturday morning in the peace and quiet of our refuge.  It didn’t take too many of these weekend escapes to inspire us to come up with the name of our beloved get away – Runaway Ridge.
